The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time: Full Cast Audition Notice

This is an audition for the cast. The lead role will be auditioned on 7th June – see here.

The play

Curious Incident tells the story of Christopher Boone, a 15-year-old neurodivergent and hyper intelligent young man who is obsessed with maths. After he finds a dead dog called Wellington in his neighbours garden (hence the title) he makes it his mission to find out who killed him. 

What follows is a moving story of a young man pushing himself outside of his comfort zone and fighting against his nature to solve a mystery and uncover the secrets of his past. 

The Parts (overview)

 The part of Christopher Boone is already cast so this audition will be for the rest of the 9 roles. The entire cast is on stage for the entire show and play parts within Christopher’s story and act as a ‘Greek Chorus’ who help create a physical embodiment of Christopher’s feelings and conscience. 

They are a reflection of the emotions that Christopher goes through on his journey. Those who are planning on auditioning need to be fully committed, invested in telling Christopher’s story and comfortable with movement. 

The parts are as follows:

• Ed Boone: Christopher’s father (male, playing age 35-50s)
• Judy Boone: Christopher’s mother (female, playing age 35-50s)
• Siobhan: Christopher’s teacher and the narrator at points (female, playing age 20s)
• Chorus 1: Plays Mrs. Shears, Mrs. Gascoyne, Woman on Train, Shopkeeper (female, playing age 35–50s)
• Chorus 2: Plays Roger Shears, Duty Sergeant, Mr. Wise, Man Behind Counter, Drunk One (male, playing age 40s–50s)
• Chorus 3: Plays Policeman, Mr. Thompson, Drunk Two, Man with Socks, London Policeman (male, playing age 20s–40s)
• Chorus 4: Plays Reverend Peters, Uncle Terry, Station Policeman, Station Guard (male, playing age 50+)
• Chorus 5: Plays No. 40, Lady in the Street, Information, Punk Girl (female, playing age 20s)
• Chorus 6: Plays Mrs. Alexander, Posh Woman (female, playing age 50+)

What will happen on the day

The audition will be split into two sections:

• Section 1: a group workshop that all auditionees will take part in. We will create a scene together with movement.

The rehearsal process

Rehearsals will start primary the week beginning 20th July, with a read through organised one night the week beginning the 13th (to be arranged with the cast). Rehearsals will be three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Sundays with occasional Fridays. Weeknights will start at 7pm and Weekends will start at 10am. 

What I expect from the cast

This is a very demanding piece of theatre so the number one expectation is commitment. Attendance and punctuality at rehearsal is vital. I ask that you come to rehearsal ready to work, remember your blocking and learn your lines. Whilst what we produce will be outstanding, it will be because of hard work and getting the basics of theatre nailed down!
