Audition Notice: Every Brilliant Thing

Auditions 11th January 2026 2pm in the STUDIO
The Show –

Every Brilliant Thing is a critically acclaimed, contemporary one-person play that explores themes of mental health, hope, and human connection. Blending scripted storytelling with moments of improvisation and direct audience interaction, the piece follows an individual who, from childhood into adulthood, constructs a lifelong list of “brilliant things” in an effort to support a parent struggling with depression.

Balancing humour with emotional depth, the play invites the audience to share in a journey that is both intimate and uplifting. The role is flexible and may be performed by an actor of any gender, with elements of the script adaptable to suit the performer’s age and lived experience. The production requires warmth, sincerity, and the ability to engage openly with an audience in a shared storytelling space.

Role:

The Narrator

Any gender, any age (the script will be adapted to suit the performer).

The Narrator is the heart of Every Brilliant Thing  a warm, open, and engaging storyteller who guides the audience through a personal, uplifting, and sometimes emotional journey. They speak directly to the audience, invite light interaction, and balance humour with honesty.

Key qualities:

  • Warm, sincere, and relatable
  • Comfortable speaking directly to an audience
  • Able to shift naturally between humour and emotional depth
  • Some comfort with light improvisation (not essential — we can support this in rehearsals)
  • Confident storyteller with strong presence

The role blends scripted monologue with guided audience interaction, and can be tailored to reflect the performer’s age, experiences, and voice.
