Notes From A Small Island
A play adapted by Tim Whitnall
Based on the book by Bill Bryson
Directed by Alan Levesley
Bill Bryson’s hit memoir spent three years on the Sunday Times bestseller list and sold over 2 million copies, and is here adapted into a full cast play celebrating the quirks and character of the United Kingdom.
A young man from Des Moines Iowa arrives on the ferry at Dover in 1973 and intends to conquer the island, like Caesar before him. But Caesar didn’t have to deal with kippers, Curly Wurlies, or Mrs Smegma the landlady’s eccentric house rules.
As Bill travels the length and breadth of Britain, through villages with names like Titsey and Little Dribbling, something strange starts to happen… he starts to feel at home.
A play that allows audiences to connect with their past, identify with the present, and consider what the future might bring for them.
