With indoor venues across England allowed to re-open this week, Chorley Theatre reveals the first events on sale since November last year.
We’re one of the oldest still-operating cinemas in the world and will be screening a range of films from classic dramas to recent Oscar winners as we ease out of the pandemic. Live events will start from June, with a full musical to be performed in July.
Films start on Wednesday 26th May with the 1945 romantic drama Brief Encounter. Written by Noel Coward, directed by David Lean, and filmed in Lancashire, this tale of two married people who meet on a train station has always been a favourite at the venue.
On Sunday 30th May, we’re showing Minari, the story of a Korean family pursuing the American dream which won Oscar and Bafta acting awards for Yuh-Jong Youn as the plain-speaking Grandma.
Films in June include Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory, Sound of Metal, 23 Walks, starring Alison Steadman, and an 80s week made up of Wonder Woman 84, Dirty Dancing, Bill & Ted Face The Music and the original Top Gun.
On Saturday 26th June, Manfords Comedy Club returns with a line-up of 4 top stand-ups.
From 5th July for a week, Chorley Amateur Dramatic & Operatic Society (CADOS) present the modern musical, Ordinary Days. Set among the twenty-something dating scene of New York this show features 4 singers, live musicians, and is being rehearsed under COVID-safe conditions.
This will be the first CADOS show since the George Formby play staged in February last year and will lead into an Autumn that includes Bouncers, Scrooge, and The Snow Queen pantomime.
Ian Robinson, Operations Director of Chorley Theatre, said “We’re delighted to be back entertaining the town and hope to provide plenty of events to entice audiences back through our doors”
“We know it’s a bit daunting for everyone, but we’re making sure the venue is as safe as possible, and look forward to bringing more shows to Chorley, hopefully for many years to come.”
There will be a ‘drop in’ at the venue from 5pm on Sunday for any new or returning volunteers, and auditions for upcoming shows will soon be announced.
