The Rehearsals
A full rehearsal schedule will be issued once the play has been cast. Normally, there are two
rehearsals in the week (Mon and Friday – 7-9.30pm), and one on a Sunday (12-4pm).
The Play
An hilarious and incredibly dark comedy/farce that satirises attitudes to death, the law and the
church.
Two young thieves, Hal and Dennis, rob a bank next to a funeral parlour where Dennis works. They
return to Hal’s home to hide the money. Hal’s mother has recently died and the money is hidden in
her coffin while the body of Hal’s mother keeps appearing around the house. With the arrival of the
corrupt Inspector Truscott the plot becomes increasingly comic and bizarre.
My aim for this production is to create a fast-paced comedy with quick-fire dialogue and a great deal
of physical comedy. To achieve this it is vital that the cast are off-script as early as possible.
The Roles:-
There is no preparation needed for the audition. Scripted extracts from the play will be distributed at
the audition. There will also be a short physical theatre workshop.
HAL (M) – a young man and thief.
DENNIS (M) – a young man and thief – very close friend of Hals
MRS MCLEAVEY (F) – Hal’s mother – non-speaking role – dead.
MR MCLEAVEY (M) – Hal’s father.
FAY (F) – A nurse – surprisingly young for a woman who has been widowed 7 times.
INSPECTOR TRUSCOTT – (M) – an experienced police officer on the hunt for the stolen money.
MEADOWS – (M) – a police officer, assisting Truscott.
