Audition Notice for “Disney’s Aladdin, Jr”
A Chorley Youth Theatre Production. All performers must be no younger than 10 years old and no older than 18 years old at time of performance.

Performance dates: Wednesday 9th July – 7pm, Thursday 10th July – 7pm, Friday 11th July – 7pm, Saturday 12th July – Noon, 3pm, 7pm.
The production is 1 hour long with no interval.
Auditions will take place on Sunday 30th March from 10 am
Meet in the Theatre bar – Auditions will be in the Studio.
Please note: Auditionees under 16-years-old must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
About the show:
This is a musical adapted for youth performers from the Broadway play and classic animated movie. The story remains the same: a street urchin must win the heart of the princess and defeat the evil wizard, with the help of a powerful genie. There is no tiger or magic carpet but it does feature all the classic songs as well as new ones and new characters.
As a Chorley Youth Theatre production this will be a fun show with popular appeal, great costumes, and fantastic staging. Performers must be between 10 and 18 years old. Directors Katie and and Natalie and choreographer Gemma will be familiar to CADOS Pantomime audiences, and MD Rachel has also worked on recent Pantomimes here.
Characters:
Aladdin (M)
A poor street urchin, longs to make his mother proud, but sometimes loses his way. He’s the thief with a heart of gold. This character requires confidence and charisma with versatility to play both the playful prankster and the romantic. Must be able to dance or move to rhythm. The Princess of Agrabah, longs to experience the world outside the palace walls. Curious and assertive, she knows what she wants and craves freedom to make her own choices. This character requires a strong actor and singer who can portray both the romantic lead, and a young woman caught between her responsibilities to her people and herself. Jafar (M)
Jafar is the power hungry and crooked Grand Vizier. Requires a strong actor who can sing and portray both sides of Jafar’s two-faced personality – loyal advisor to the Sultan and scheming villain – as well as pull off strong comedic moments with his lackey, Iago. Iago is a sarcastic, loud – mouthed and short-tempered parrot who serves as Jafar’s side kick. Requires an actor who can execute Iago’s many sarcastic asides with strong comedic flare. The fast-talking, fun loving, scene stealing wise cracker who lives in the lamp and yearns to be free. This role requires a very strong comedy actor with great comic timing and a flashy and fun sense of showmanship. Ability to sing and dance required. Babkak, Omar & Kassim (M/F)
These are Aladdin’s three loyal and playful pals. Babkak is the Agrabahn foodie who loves to snack, kind-hearted Omar has a sensitive soul, and stubborn Kassim yearns to be a leader. A tight -knit trio of strong singers and actors. Will be required to audition together to get a good sense of chemistry. Isir, Manal & Rajah (F)
Jasmines devoted attendants, keep the Princess grounded with their honesty and openness. Isir, whose name means “inspiration” is optimistic, Manal whose name means “achievement” is assertively encouraging and Rajah whose name means “hope” is the most protective. As with Aladdin’s three pals’ actors will be required to audition together to get a good sense of chemistry but above all requires three strong vocalists for a powerhouse number. The warm-hearted ruler who dotes on his daughter, is committed to upholding the ancient laws of Agrabah. With only a single lyric to sing the focus is on an actor who can play the father figure convincingly. (scenes accessible via the link and will be available at auditions)

Ensemble groups and Featured Roles
Agrabahns (M/F)
These are the citizens of Agrabah who help create the bustling marketplace of merchants, shoppers, beggars and guards. These include:
- Beggars – small group who interact with Aladdin briefly
- Apple Vendor – a merchant who reviles the beggars and from whom Jasmine unintentionally steals an apple.
- Fortune Teller – Unwittingly helps Aladdin escape the guards in “One Jump Ahead”.
- Shop Owner – a marketplace vendor who Aladdin steals bread from.
- Razoul – a rough intimidating and commanding head of the palace guards, answers to Jafar.
- Guards – Follow Razoul’s orders. 2 with speaking roles.
- Prince Abdullah – One of Princess Jasmine’s haughty and arrogant suitors.
- Attendants – Acompany Prince Abdullah on his journey to Agrabah.
