It is vital that all principals / ensemble / dancers are available for all performances so please check your availability before auditioning!
Auditions
Auditions are to be held at Chorley Theatre (Dole Lane, Chorley, PR7 2RL) on Sunday 8th February 2026:-
Principal Cast Auditions: 10am (registration from 9:30am)
Ensemble Auditions: 1pm – 2pm (registration from 12:30pm)
Dancer Auditions: 1pm – 4pm (registration from 12:30pm)

Main Cast Auditions (10:00am – registration from 9:30am):
Below are details for the main cast and the ensemble. On the audition day small acting pieces will be available and time will be given for you to rehearse. Please wear loose clothing as we will be doing some movement in the audition.
Attached to the descriptions below are the songs that will be used, and we will also be going through these with anyone that wants to look at them in advance on the welcome night.
The show is set in Philadelphia and so ideally we are looking for American accents, but we are far more interested in your singing / dancing / acting ability so just try your best American accent and don’t worry too much about the authenticity!
Please note that the ages stated are “playing ages” – if you are not in that age range but think you could pass for it then please feel free to audition.
Delores Van Cartier
Female, Age-25-35, Voice type – Mezzo Soprano (E3 to F#5)
Deloris is a bold, sassy, and ambitious protagonist of Sister Act, a lounge singer forced into witness protection in a convent after witnessing a mob murder. A street-wise diva, we are looking for a very confident, soulful singer and actress. Deloris is rarely off the stage so an experienced performer/actress is essential to this part:

Mother Superior
Female, Playing age – 50-70, Voice Type – Mezzo Soprano (D3 to E5)
Mother Superior is an integral part of the production. The strict, traditional head of the convent who reluctantly shelters Deloris Van Cartier (Sister Mary Clarence), eventually warming to her and helping rescue her. Looking for a strong actress with strong vocals, and who must be able to portray the stern personality of this character.

Sister Mary Robert
Female, Playing age – 16-25, Voice Type – Soprano (F#3 to A5)
Sister Mary Robert is a very timid character, a novice nun she finds her confidence through the friendship she has with Delores. Acts as a bridge between Delores and the traditional nuns. Strong vocals required for after she ‘finds her voice’!
Audition Song: The Life I Never Led
Sister Mary Patrick
Female, Playing age – 30-50, Voice type – Soprano (E3 to E6)
Sister Mary Patrick is an integral vibrant and bold character within the convent. Described as young at heart and full of life she is a stark contrast to the more conservative nuns. Again a strong musical actress is required with great stage presence and strong vocals.

Sister Mary Lazarus
Female, Playing age – 50-70, Voice type – Alto (F3 to B4)
Old and cranky, Sister Mary Lazarus is the convents choir mistress. Grumpy and crabby she finds a new spark of life through music. This character requires strong comedic acting and, comic timing and will be required to perform a rap!

Monsignor O’Hara
Male, Playing age – 40-60, Voice type – Baritone (E3 to G4)
A traditional priest who is described as kind, he brings new enthusiasm as the choir brings new energy to the convent. Starts off as stiff but relaxes more throughout the musical.

Eddie
Male, Playing age – 25-35, Voice type – Tenor (Ab2 to B4)
Eddie, the loveable police desk chief often referred to as Sweaty Eddie, went to school with Delores. A sweet character who is desperate to be a hero to Delores. A few solo songs and so needs to be a confident singer.
Audition Song: I Could Be That Guy
Curtis Jackson
Male, Playing age – 30-40, Voice Type – High Baritone (A2 to Ab4)
Curtis Jackson is Deloris Van Cartier’s boyfriend, a club owner, and a murderer. This a fantastic male lead role for someone who can portray the strong personality with all the gangster vibes needed. A dangerous and cocky individual. Good vocal ability required.

TJ
Male, Playing age – 20-30, Voice type – Tenor (Db3 to Eb5)
TJ is Curtis’ nephew and wannabe gangster, TJ is portrayed as not the brightest, providing comic relief through his stupidity. A strong comedic performance is required for this role. Needs to be able to sing / hold close harmonies with the other gangsters

Joey
Male, Playing age-25-40, Voice type – Tenor (Bb2 to Eb5)
One of Curtis’ thugs (along with Pablo and TJ) trying to find Deloris in the convent, again another comedy role and fancies himself as a ladies man. Needs to be able to sing / hold close harmonies with the other gangsters
Audition Song: Lady in the Long Black Dress
Pablo
Male, Playing age – 25-40, Voice type – Tenor (C4 to Eb5)
Pablo is another one of Curtis’ thugs, He is characterized as a Spanish-speaking gangster, often providing comedic relief through his dialogue, which the others do not understand, and his distinct style. Needs to be able to sing / hold close harmonies with the other gangsters

Michelle & Tina
Female, Playing age – 20-30, Voice type – Mezzo soprano (Ab3 to F5)
Michelle and Tina are Deloris’ backing singers featured early on, small acting roles and will be part of the ensemble as well, but must have strong vocals to back up Deloris

Other named characters will be cast from those not successful in auditioning for other main cast roles, or from the ensemble. These will not be auditioned separately on audition day. They include:
Sister Mary Martin-of-tours
Female, playing age – 30+
An aloof, dreaming, and often disoriented nun who adds comedic relief. She is often paired with other nuns for comedic scenes and does not have a specific solo, making her a “character actor” role.
Sister Mary Theresa
Female, playing age – 30+
Sister Mary Theresa is a featured member of the convent ensemble, often described as “decrepit at a glance” but possessing a sharp wit and a “cheeky” sense of humour.
Ernie
Male, Playing age – 25+
Ernie is one of Curtis’ henchmen who is and informant for the police, small acting role and doubles up as other characters from ensemble.
Ensemble Auditions (1:00pm – registration from 12:30pm):
We are looking for a bunch of talented male & female singers / actors, aged 16+ to form our ensemble.
At the auditions you can expect to be put into small groups and asked to sing a section of “Spread the Love Around” for the audition, as well as learning and performing a short section of choreography of the level expected for the ensemble within the show (so please wear loose clothing to the audition)
There are various named parts that we will cast from withing the ensemble such as, waitresses, pool players, cops, homeless people, drag queens etc, as well as the named characters above who may be cast from either those not successful for the principal roles or from the ensemble.
Dancer Auditions (1:00pm – registration from 12:30pm):
We are seeking a group of strong, versatile dancers to enhance key musical numbers. Dancers should be aged 16 or over on the show dates, and be proficient in jazz, lyrical, and contemporary dance with strong musicality and confident stage presence. Previous dance experience is desirable.
Successful candidates will be expected to perform as part of the ensemble and be involved in singing as well as dance numbers.
The audition will consist of a singing audition in small groups (alongside the ensemble auditions) and then be expected to learn and perform some short choreographed sections from the show.
Please wear comfortable dancewear suitable for movement and bring water with you.
Dancers will be required to attend rehearsals starting Sunday 8th March, predominantly Sundays for dancing but there will be midweek rehearsals for singing and acting.
