The Show:
From the writer of Sherlock, Doctor Who, and Coupling this comedy play is a farce with a sitcom sensibility. The original production starred Reece Sheersmith and Amanda Abbingdon, then Lee Mack and Sarah Alexander. When English couple Peter and Debbie take a cruise they meet brash American Elsa. She says they should call her whenever they’re nearby, they say the same… and several months later she turns up on their UK doorstep. With nosy neighbours, annoying teenage kids, and slow-witted policemen it is a great set-up for a full of mistaken identity, awkward situations and scathing one-liners. The play touches on themes of friendship and busy modern life but is mainly a vehicle for laughs and this production will be fast-paced and broad, getting as many laughs as possible. Excellent comic timing is required for all parts.
The Director:
This show will mark Ian Robinson’s 37th anniversary of being involved with CADOS – a period in which he has been set-painter, techie, producer, Chairman, and director of 2 pantos and 2 comedies.
The Characters
(ages are a guideline only, and it may depend on the day – all performers must be over 16):
Peter (M, late 30s-50s)
A sarcastic, uptight English dad. Hard-working and a bit stressed he despairs at the modern world and tries to avoid confrontation.

Debbie (F, late 30s-50s)
Peter’s wife, more easy-going and grounded and friendlier but prone to passive aggression and increasingly exasperated. Slightly more assertive than Peter, but it’s never far from wine o’clock

Elsa Jean Krakowski (F, 50s-70s)
Older, brash outgoing and cheerful American Trump supporter. Chatty and loud, with an underlying sinister edge. A big scene-stealing part.

Nosy, boring, interfering pedant who often appears at the worst moments. Needs to be able to sit still for a bit.

Peter and Debbie’s teenage son. Initially sarcastic, unimpressed, tech-savvy and surly he becomes a sporty positive teen
