The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time: Christopher Boone Audition Notice

The play
Curious Incident tells the story of Christopher Boone, a 15-year-old neurodivergent and hyper intelligent young man who is obsessed with maths. After he finds a dead dog called Wellington in his neighbours garden (hence the title) he makes it his mission to find out who killed him. What follows is a moving story of a young man pushing himself outside of his comfort zone and fighting against his nature to solve a mystery and uncover the secrets of his past.
The Part
The play lives and dies by its lead – hence why I am holding a separate audition for Chirstopher. Christopher has a playing of 15 – but the actor playing him will need to be 16 years old or older. Christopher is on the autistic spectrum and it is vital to the success of the production that is portrayed sensitively.
It cannot be an impression of someone on the spectrum, it needs to be an accurate portrayal of a real person who is on the spectrum. The part is physically demanding and will require a young performer who has the commitment and vulnerability to be able to throw themselves into a role.
What will happen on the day
The audition will be split into two sections:
- Section 1: A character workshop were we will discuss the character and improvise scenes in a workshop setting

The rehearsal process
We will arrange one or two character rehearsals before auditions for the full cast. Full rehearsals will start primary the week beginning 20th July, with a read through organised one night the week beginning the 13th (to be arranged with the cast). Rehearsals will be three times a week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Sundays with occasional Fridays. Weeknights will start at 7pm and Weekends will start at 10am.
What I expect from the cast
This is a very demanding piece of theatre so the number one expectation is commitment. Attendance and punctuality at rehearsal is vital. I ask that you come to rehearsal ready to work, remember your blocking and learn your lines. Whilst what we produce will be outstanding, it will be because of hard work and getting the basics of theatre nailed down!
