The Audition
Venue: Chorley Theatre – auditionees will gather in the bar with auditions to be held in the studio

Synopsis
A quantum physicist and a beekeeper meet at a barbeque. They hit it off, or perhaps they don’t. They go home together, or maybe they go their separate ways. In Constellations, every new scene is set in a different universe and we see a multitude of possible events featuring the couple – except when they aren’t a couple – some romantic, some funny, some intimate, some awkward, some heartbreaking and some joyous, as consecutive scenes show similar events with differences which are sometimes subtle and sometimes significantly noticeable. Think Sliding Doors with an unlimited number of timelines being portrayed.
Roles
Marianne (F): A quantum physicist – huge nerd, who will happily talk for hours about her favourite subject. Given to filling gaps in conversation with awkward humour. Has a proactive approach to her relationship with Roland.
Roland (M): A beekeeper – insecure, people pleaser. Given to big romantic gestures. Has a reactive approach to his relationship with Marianne.
It is suggested that both characters are in their 30s, however this is not essential as long as both characters are of a similar age – it is more important that we have 2 strong dramatic actors with good range, able in turn to play humorous, emotional and tense dramatic scenes.
Chemistry is essential between the 2 actors, who will be required to portray romantic scenes including kissing as part of the performance.
Although portrayed through a variety of different timelines, these characters are fundamentally the same throughout, and should maintain the same mannerisms, accent, etc throughout.
This show was revived at the Vaudeville Theatre, London in 2021 with 4 different casts throughout its run there, each cast radically different from the other 3. I therefore do not have a particular ‘look’ or playing style in mind for either character and would encourage anyone who is looking for a uniquely rewarding acting challenge to come and show their own unique take on the characters.
Fluency in British Sign Language would be an advantage as one scene is performed entirely in BSL, but this is not essential as this will be taught during the rehearsal process.
Both actors should have basic ‘dance’ / movement ability.
